Get children reading and raise funds for the National Literacy Trust with the new Where’s Wally?® fundraising pack for schools
6 Jul 2011
Independent charity the National Literacy Trust and Where’s Wally?® have teamed up to launch a brand new fundraising pack for schools. The pack aims to encourage children to have fun, read more and in turn help the National Literacy Trust raise money for their vital work in disadvantaged communities.
As part of the fundraising activities, schools across the country are being challenged to read 50 books as a class over one week. The pack provides a wide range of resources to help teachers to integrate the 50 book challenge into their lessons. Other fun ideas centred around popular children’s character Where’s Wally? include creating your very own search and find scene on a wall in the classroom, or asking students to invent their own Wally-style character and share their ideas aloud with their classmates.
The pack is full to the brim with ideas and tools like these, including:
• Ready-to-go resources and activities for the classroom
• The 50 Book Challenge that includes posters and wall charts
• Fun activities from dressing-up days to book stalls to a Where’s Wally? photobooth
• Exciting ways to involve pupils in a whole week of reading
Sarah De Zoysa, Schools Manager, National Literacy Trust, says:
“The National Literacy Trust is delighted to be working with the much-loved Where’s Wally? brand thanks to both Classic Media and Walker Books. The fundraising resource is packed full of resources to help teachers finish off the term, or kickstart the new term. The ideas are also ideal for linking with Children’s Book Week at the beginning of October. As well as being such fantastic and worthwhile activities for students of all ages, the funds raised will help our work to support the literacy of disadvantaged children across the country.”
Jo Humphreys-Davies from Walker Books who publish the Where’s Wally? titles in the UK, says:
“We believe that Where’s Wally? is the perfect partner for the National Literacy Trust – Wally is a children’s favourite, and a brand that appeals to readers of all abilities and all ages. The books help children to develop vital reading skills through ‘Visual Literacy’, enabling children to read meaning from and interpret pictures. With the diverse range of engaging activities detailed in the pack we hope to get lots more children to love reading.”
