National Literacy Trust calls on school students to share their passion with WWE® Superstars and Divas
21 Jun 2011
Independent charity the National Literacy Trust has launched a brand new and exciting competition called Voice It! in partnership with WWE® Entertainment. The competition aims to inspire young people to get involved in a fun and creative activity while improving their speaking and listening skills at the same time.
Voice it! follows on from the successful WWE® WrestleMania Reading Challenge that ran in 2010. In 2011 the competition focuses on developing young people's speaking and listening skills because being able to communicate has such a profound effect on future success - whether students want to pursue careers in business, teaching, music, presenting, acting or any other career they desire.
Sarah De Zoysa, Schools Manager at the National Literacy Trust says:
“It’s vital that young people have role models in their lives, and celebrities who are good communicators serve as great role models to inspire and motivate young people to work on their own communication skills. WWE® Superstars and Divas are enormously popular and are watched by millions of young people worldwide. We believe that by motivating young people by linking literacy to something they love they will gain the skills they need to live a successful, happy and fulfilling life.”
To enter, pupils must choose a topic which they feel passionate about and be filmed for no longer than one minute persuading a WWE® Superstar or Diva to share their views. The short-list of entries will then be judged by the Superstars and Divas themselves.
The winning pupils will receive a fantastic ‘money-can’t-buy’ experience and will be a Guest Manager a WWE® UK event in winter 2011 in front of thousands of fans. They will also receive a backstage pass so they can meet the WWE® Superstars before the show. The lucky winners will also receive a WWE® merchandise pack and £50 of reading materials each. The winning film clips will feature on the National Literacy Trust website.
The competition is completely free and open to all UK schools. Members of the National Literacy Trust’s Schools Network can also access exclusive resources to support the competitions. For more information about the competition and to enter, please go here.

About the competition
Schools can enter as many films as they would like, but each entry must not feature any more than two pupils.
Entries are currently being accepted. To enter submit your competition entry form and then upload your pupils’ entries to YouTube (on a private setting). This is the safest and most effective way for you to send us the films. A “how to” guide for uploading your entries on to YouTube can be found here.
Members of our Schools Network can access a series of "Top tips" film clips featuring WWE® Superstars and Divas, as well as a downloadable teacher support resource.
