National Literacy Trust welcomes the National Year of Reading
15 Mar 2007
The National Literacy Trust has today pledged to support the Government in its aim of putting "reading at the top of everyone's agenda" through a second National Year of Reading in 2008.
The National Literacy Trust is very proud to have led the first National Year of Reading, which created a momentum that established reading as a priority at local and national levels. It implemented innovative literacy promotions, established exciting new reading partnerships and resulted in a legacy which includes the National Reading Campaign.
Director of the National Literacy Trust Jonathan Douglas comments:
We're excited that Alan Johnson has chosen to make this announcement in the context of the promotion of parenting. We believe that the Family Reading Campaign, which the Trust launched in January, provides a springboard for the new Year of Reading's focus on families reading together. When we read we live different lives, see different perspectives and develop empathy. Reading enables people to fulfil their learning, social and economic potential."
