Programme delivery, 2012-13
Brook Trust
In 2012-13, funding from the Brook Trust will allow the Literacy Champions programme in Croydon to reach a further 125 families.
Hodder Charitable Foundation
In 2012-13, funding from the Hodder Charitable Foundation will allow the Literacy Champions programme to run in partnership with organisations in Middlesbrough, Birmingham and London. Over the course of the programme, more than 300 volunteers will reach over 1,000 families and children in need of literacy support across the UK.
Commercial model
Literacy Champions is available to purchase as a commercial package for local authorities and organisations across the UK. To date, training has been delivered to CSV staff in Coventry and London, staff in Wythenshawe (as part of their Talk of the Town initiative), and is due to be introduced into communities in Bristol and Wokingham shortly.
To find out more about the commercial model of the programme, please contact andy.parkinson@literacytrust.org.uk.
“This project is a great way to use peer-to-peer support to present a less threatening approach to parents and carers who aren’t currently engaging with their child’s school or children’s centre or family learning provision in the community. It overcomes barriers and draws these families in so they are able to access all the support available to them and their children.”
