ABLAZE - A Bristol Learning
Action Zone in Education
Offers Reading Partners, which encourages business
volunteers to go into schools and read with young children.
They are partly funded by one of the Neighbourhood Renewal
regions in the north of Bristol. In 2007 they launched
a project in primary schools linking business with extended
school partnerships and encouraging groups such as parents,
governors and the community to become actively involved
in addressing some of the basic issues around education
in Bristol such as learning basic skills. For more information

forming part of local Education Business Link Organisations (EBLOs).
They aim to help improve student and teacher awareness of the world
of work and the key skills requirements, contribute to the raising
of achievement by students through work related learning, and help
motivate students to see the value of lifelong learning. There are
over 150 EBPs in England and Wales, and 18 in Northern Ireland,
and structures vary. Some may be part of an LA or careers service
