Statement

I am currently a freelance literacy consultant who provides tailored training, advice and support to schools and LAs. I am also employed by Poole SCITT as their English tutor. Until August 2010, I was employed for 7 years as the LA literacy consultant for Poole schools, providing professional development on literacy and assessment and previously for Gillingham Education Action Zone (Medway LA). I am experienced in working with individual or groups of schools, to provide literacy and Afl training, advice and support at different levels across the Primary age range. I have 12 years experience as a KS1 and KS2 teacher, literacy leader and leading teacher, working in Portsmouth, Medway and Kent with senior leadership experience to deputy head level in a Primary school. I am committed to developing and sharing good practice to generate enthusiastic, high quality teaching of literacy.

Areas of work

Phonics, early reading, shared and guided reading, assessment linked to AFs, summative assessment, APP. [ CLLD programme experience]. Writing - Shared and guided writing, talk for writing approaches, improving boys' literacy. [ECAW programe LA lead experience] Visual literacy and the use of film to support literacy and cross curricular learning. Speaking, listening, group discussion and drama. AfL - in lessons and across the school School staff, parents, governors, NQTs, LA events, ITT

Services

CPD and in school advice tailored to suit a school or group of schools' needs: school improvement priorities, monitoring support, coaching. Can provide staff meetings, inset days, team teaching, joint lesson observations with leaders, planning support and collaborative CPD [peer support, lesson study] with groups of teachers on an agreed focus. I work with senior leaders, subject leaders, class teachers, NQTs, TAs, governors, parents. ITT courses - English sessions LA networks, conferences
