What is it?

With funding from the Department for Education, HELLO - Helping Early Language and Literacy Outcomes - worked with early years experts to improve the communication, language and literacy outcomes of children from birth to age three.

The HELLO programme was delivered in 74 early years settings from April 2015 until March 2016. These settings all completed a self-assessment and action planning tool, which focused on three key areas:

  1. Skilled practitioners
  2. Partnership with parents
  3. Enabling environments

The HELLO tool is available on the National Literacy Trust Network. See all of the HELLO programme resources.

We also have a wide range of resources available for the early years. See all of our early years resources.

The programme also aimed to provide support and advice on using digital technology to promote communication, language and literacy development in the early years. You can find out more about using digital technology in the early years here.
