The role of The FA
Get into Football
The Role of The FA
The Football Association, as the game's governing body
in England and the world's pre-eminent national association,
occupies a central role in the relationships between
football's many constituent parts: fans, players, officials,
managers and coaches. Under the over-arching vision
of "using the power of football to build a better future",
The FA's purpose is to lead the successful development
of football at every level. The FA is working with Reading
The Game to find new areas of incorporating literacy
into existing programmes, and to help secure the help
of the England squad. To find out more about The FA

As well as producing resources (see 'Up
for the cup'), The FA also hold competitions for
schools from time to time. Recently they held a poetry
competition. Here's an article from the winning school's
PE Coordinator:
The children in the upper years class at St Lawrence's
School in Bristol spent a week earlier in the year using
The FA curriculum resource Up For the Cup. Part of the
work for the literacy module was to write a poem about
football which the school entered in The FA's national
poetry competition. The school was delighted to learn
that one of the poems won first prize. It is a collaboration
by the girls football team when inspired by a visit
to watch Bristol City Play. As a reward for their poetic
prowess the girls won a selection of football related
books for the school and complete Umbro kit for the
team. Their poem reads:
Football is me, I am my team.
Here they come, my favourite team,
They are in my blood my heart my soul,
I live for each and every goal.
I'm on the pitch, I play the game,
I know each player, every name,
I kick each ball, save each chance,
For 90minutes I'm in a trance.
I share the victories, feel their pain.
When the other team scores, I know their shame.
My football team means so much to me,
They are everything I want to be.

Get into Football
Get into Football is The FA's first campaign aimed
at promoting football development initiatives to all
children and parents.
As the guardians of the game, it is The FA's role is
to ensure there are opportunities for all to play the
game and also engage people at all levels in off-the-field
roles.
It's about doing things properly. About making sure
everyone has a chance to be involved in football, regardless
of ability, race, religion or background.
About encouraging and increasing the involvement of
groups at all levels of football by recognising that
inequalities exist and taking steps to address them.
It's about making opportunities available where currently
they are limited.
It is the work of 270 football development officers
locally that help to deliver objectives of football
for all. Wherever you live, football in your region
is governed by your County Football Association and
each has its own football development department whose
job it is to develop local opportunities.
They are there on the other end of the phone or e-mail
to support you to get into football. Find out more at
The FA's website: http://www.TheFA.com/GetIntoFootball/
