Non-RTG literacy activity

Hull City started their RIF project in 2003. Their project, part of Playing for Success, runs in a library which is purpose-built as part of the stadium!

In their first year the club gave 60 children three books each, and then paid for 128 extra children to receive a further two books each.

All the players have been really involved, both from the football club and the rugby club (which is also based at the stadium). Books have been given out by players at presentation evenings with players talking to children about their choices. The club's academy players have also been involved.

The project coordinator explained how they run their scheme:
"Hull City Football Club and Hull Superleague Rugby Club players attended all of the presentations. The RIF project is integrated into the "Playing for Success" 10 week course. Librarians work with pupils at the beginning of the course and pupils selected their favourite titles. Players attended the final session to present the books as well as working with pupils on speaking and listening skills."

The Club's RIF project is currently on hold.
