‘Tis the season for fun fundraising!

In the lead up to the holidays friends, family and colleagues gather to celebrate the festive season.  Why not help others as well? Organisations can add some of the usual fun elements like a raffle or bake sale to the office party and generate donations for the charity - or individual staff could do something on their own with friends and family. This year we’ve come up with some fantastic ideas.

Pub quiz

Our ready-made quiz covers all the normal topics but with a literary theme. For all the questions (and answers!) email lianna.ovenden@literacytrust.org.uk.

Speed book club

A book club hosted speed-dating style! Organise an evening of “book dates” where everyone gets to socialise with other enthusiastic readers, hear about the different books and authors their fellow book-lovers enjoy and get ideas for their next exciting read. For details on how to run this easy, fun event please email lianna.ovenden@literacytrust.org.uk.

Santa Dash

The Santa Dash will take place on Sunday 4 December in Greenwich Park and you even get your own Santa suit. You can sign up for just 5km or 10km, so even if you are not a runner you can still participate. If you would like to join in the fun or know any colleagues, friends or relatives who would be interested in taking a place, you can find out more or register at www.doitforcharity.com

Whiteleys Shopping Centre to give free books this Christmas

In support of our Young Readers Programme, Whiteleys Shopping Centre will give every child who visits their Santa’s Grotto an age-appropriate book to take away with them and cherish while also donating all entry fees to the National Literacy Trust.

Santa’s Grotto will open at 6pm on 17 November and run until Christmas Eve so please come along and support the charity while getting your shopping done!

Skydiving: 17 March 2012

Make it your New Year’s resolution to take the leap for literacy and join our skydiving day! Don’t worry if you have never jumped before – training will be done on the day as part of the experience. We are taking bookings now so register your interest by emailing lianna.ovenden@literacytrust.org.uk.

Give the gift of reading

This Christmas you could help a child from a disadvantaged community discover the joy of reading and owning books, by giving the gift of reading.
