Year one - four pilots
Family Reading Matters will first be trialled in four different types of local authorities. The pilots will include focused and universal support for children (from birth to 16) and their parents and wider family with an emphasis on early years support. The coordinators in year one will be networked to help to develop a flexible toolkit to support the pilots in year two.
The pilot projects will consist of the following phases:
1. Auditing and target setting
During this phase the local authority coordinator, with support from the NLT, will map existing support for family involvement with literacy and identify the priority groups and outcomes in this area that the local authority needs to focus on.
2. Strategy development
Partners and stakeholders will be engaged in optimising support to reach target groups and deliver identified outcomes. They will develop an approach to networking and sharing approaches and resources across the authority.
3. Roll out and evaluation
The strategy will be rolled out within the local authority and will begin to strengthen local service delivery of support for family involvement with literacy. Evidence of improved service delivery and associated outcomes will be identified where possible.
