Trailblazers is a series of full-colour books on popular
non-fiction topics, designed for older children and young
adults with a reading age between six and seven years. The first
six books in the series are: Football, Formula One, Comets,
Mummies, UFOs and Dinosaurs. The books are attractive to reluctant
readers and those not in the habit of reading. The books hit
all the key educational requirements: fonts and text sizes
have been chosen to help letter and word recognition, the
vocabulary is carefully limited, with simple sentences to
reinforce reading skills. The non-fiction sections focus on
presenting information in a variety of ways. Each Trailblazer
book contain a 12-page non-fiction section, followed by a
16-page fiction story focusing on the topic. The stories are
illustrated with full-page, full-colour illustrations, and
each story appears in two versions: a text version on the
left hand page, with a briefer, 'speech bubble' version on
the facing page. So there are two levels of entry to the story
- one for very poor readers and one for those who are better
able to read. The two levels of text are also ideal for 'buddy
readers' where a more able child can work with a less able
readers. The books cost £4.99 each. For further information
