Family ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) in Goole

We are working with migrant families who intend to remain in England and whose children attend local primary schools. Tutors are working with the families helping them understand British culture and helping them to read at the same time by using basic nursery rhyme and counting books. The books are then loaned out to the families. At the Christmas party especially for the families from the Baltic States, every child was allowed to choose a book, written in English, to take home.

Keeping Up with the Children run at a local prison
Keeping Up with the Children courses in literacy are offered to fathers who have young families. The learners are shown all the reading strategies that their children use to decode the written word. They make games and small books that they use with their children when they attend the monthly family day. Tutors take in books for the fathers to select a suitable title for them to read with their child on the visiting session.
