Experts from across the sector will come together at this practical new conference which focuses on understanding and overcoming the unique challenges boys face. Sessions will also cover the importance of peer-to-peer influence and role models in creating a positive reading environment for boys, as well as the use of drama in developing boys’ skills. A specialist author will discuss techniques for engaging boys with writing, and our experts will look at how we can practically use what boys love to influence their attitudes and attainment.

Session 1: Understanding the challenge
Lord Jim Knight will present the latest statistics and research into the gender gap and why it exists. This session will include a discussion of the Boys' Reading Commission report.Session 2: Reading and the role of peer-to-peer influence
Following on from the challenge presented in the first session, Eileen Anderson will lead the session, discussing her success in this area and offer practical, sustainable solutions that can be passed down from year to year by the pupils themselves.Session 3: Boys and talk
