A fresh look at innovation both whole school and in the classroom to enhance literacy across the school, with a focus on how new technologies and media can be used to engage boys in particular. With the growth of learning platforms, schools websites and social media, join us for a practical day to explore innovations and excellent teaching and learning using blogs, web 2.0 tools, social media and ebooks to inspire and motivate young readers and writers. Plus, input from Nosy Crow, the country’s leading publisher of digital formats for children.
Most pupils are regular users of, effective managers of, modern digital technology. Teachers need to use these contexts in their lessons if learning in English is not to seem out of step with pupils’ experiences.

Blogging is often seen as a way to engage boys with writing, but there is a lot more to it than simply giving them a login to a class blog. John will describe some of the carefully designed blog projects that teachers have set up specifically to engage boys with writing. By creating a focus for the writing that appeals to boys such projects can have a much greater impact than might otherwise be the case.
