Reading for Enjoyment in Key Stages 2 and 3 - Redbridge
Excellent and clear with up-to-date research-led practice.
- teacher, Martin Primary School, Barnet
Is reading for enjoyment part of your School Improvement Plan?
According to our research, pupils who enjoy reading very much are three times more likely to read above the expected level for their age than pupils who do not enjoy reading at all. Reading for pleasure is also consistently linked to attainment in other areas.
This programme will help you to:
engage with research and understand the benefits for your pupils of reading for enjoyment
examine a range of approaches, including choosing and using whole texts
develop an action plan for creating a community of readers in your school
implement this plan as an action research project, involving critical reflection and evidence gathering to share with the group
plan for embedding these successful approaches more widely across your school
Each school will complete a project using the evidence and research covered in the sessions. This programme is for teachers and literacy leaders of Key Stages 2 and 3 and will enable schools across Essex to collaborate and share expertise, and will also address issues around transition, pupil premium and community engagement.
Day 1: Friday 3 February 2017
Day 2: Friday 3 March 2017
Day 3: Wednesday 24 May 2017
In the spirit of collaboration we recommend that two teachers from your school attend, including the literacy lead. To support the project in school we also invite a head or senior lead to attend the first session free of charge.
If your school is already a member of the National Literacy Trust Network please email email@example.com to book your discounted place.
