This annual research symposium, collaboratively organised by UKLA and BERA, hosted by the British Library, and chaired by Gabrielle Cliff Hodges, University of Cambridge, draws together significant scholars from the field of reading to share their recent research. Professor Shirley Brice Heath from Stanford University will be joining them to explore the insights about reading from her ongoing work and recent publication, particularly her postscript to Ways with Words some thirty years later: Words at Work and Play three decades in family and community life. The intention of the day is to explore cutting-edge research in reading with particular attention to the age phase 10 to 18 years, to interrogate different reading practices within the classroom, and to discuss research into reading in extra-curricular contexts in both home and community settings.
Target audience: Researchers, policy makers, teacher educators, teachers and librarians working with learners aged 10 to 18 years. Limited places are also available for higher degree students researching in this area.
