Early years research project

Now in its third year, the National Literacy Trust and Pearson’s Early Years Literacy survey explores how parents and practitioners support the emergent literacy skills of three to five-year-olds, and the role technology can play in this.

Touch-screen devices are increasingly used at home and in early years settings, yet a there is a lack of data exploring how this might help or hinder children’s early reading skills. To fill this gap in our knowledge, our research explores the relationship between early literacy practices and young children’s literacy outcomes.

The research tracks year-on-year changes to build a continuous picture of young children’s literacy practices in the UK. To find out more, read our reports from 2013 and 2014.

As part of this project, we have also produced hints and tips on how early years practitioners can use technology in their setting.
