Guidance for smaller settings
e.g. childminders and playgroups

  • Look around the Early Reading Connects website and be inspired by the difference you could make to the children that you work with.
  • Complete the Evaluation grid. It helps you to reflect on how you approach stories and reading in your work at present, and what you could do to make improvements.
  • Set yourself one or two action points, of things that you can do, to help encourage a love of reading in the children that you work with. There are many ideas on the grid, in the family involvement toolkit and on the website.
  • Implement your action points. Share your plans with parents and families; they may want to get involved as well.
