Payroll giving

Payroll giving is the easiest, most tax efficient way of giving money to transform lives through literacy. It enables employees to give donations to charities tax free.

 How it works

  • Very simply Payroll Giving enables you to make donations directly from your gross salary (before tax is deducted).
  • It will also cost you less. For example, a donation of £5 per month costs the basic rate taxpayer £4, but because the Government pays the rest, we will receive the full £5.
  • You choose the amount you wish to give (minimum £1).
  • Many employers will now match their employees’ donations, making this an even better way of supporting us. Ask your employer if they do, or would consider matching your donation.
  • With regular weekly or monthly payments, we can plan ahead and budget for the future, ensuring that your donations can be used in the most effective way.

 How to start

  • Ask your payroll or HR department if they already have a Payroll Giving scheme in place.
  • There are no direct debits or standing orders to complete, just a straightforward form.
  • If your employer doesn’t have a scheme yet, it is really easy for them to get started. They just need to sign a contract with a Payroll Giving Agency (PGA), who will then send your donation to us as the chosen charity.
  • As an added incentive, Quality Marks are awarded to employers who make the scheme available to staff.
