Getting on well is the second national report on how early years and childcare providers are supporting Every Child Matters outcomes for children. It focuses on how the best providers are promoting children's enjoyment and achievement, and helping them to make a positive contribution.

Reports on efforts to improve the literacy and numeracy of offenders in the community.

Good school libraries: making a difference to learning (2006)
This report identifies those factors which help to produce good libraries in primary and secondary schools. It emphasises the importance of: the commitment and support of headteachers; the appointment of specialist library staff; effective monitoring and evaluation; and coherent programmes for developing pupils' information literacy.

English 2000-2005: A review of inspection evidence (2005)
This report evaluates changes in provision for English across primary and secondary schools over the period 2000-2005. It draws attention to improvements in standards and teaching.

This literature review was commissioned by Ofsted to provide an overview of recent national and international research in the field of literacy and English teaching

This report concludes the second year of a two-year evaluation of the national literacy and numeracy strategies. It looks at the early stages of the implementation of the Primary National Strategy.

Reading for purpose and pleasure (2004)
This survey was undertaken to identify reasons for the wide range in attainment in reading among primary-aged pupils; to disseminate schools' effective practice in reducing underachievement and developing pupils' positive attitudes to reading; and to describe key features of the successful teaching of reading

Boys' achievement in secondary schools (2003)
This report follows up some of the issues raised in The gender divide (1996) and identifies approaches used to raise boys’ attainment.

National Literacy Strategy: the first four years 1998-2002 (2002)
This report provides an overview of the first four years and is the fifth report on the National Literacy Strategy (NLS) published by Ofsted. It summarises the standards attained by pupils, analyses the changes in teaching methods brought about by the strategy and suggests areas where further work is needed.
