Quarter of adults ‘have barely read a book in past six months’
14 Feb 2013
According to the findings of a recent poll carried out by Quick Reads, as many as 12 million UK adults struggle with literacy skills and rarely pick up a book.
In a separate YouGov survey, almost one in 10 adults claimed they ‘never read’.
Cathy Rentzenbrink of Quick Reads expressed her concern at the findings, saying:
It’s sad to think that one in four people are in such a reading rut that they hardly ever pick up a book.
The research found those who do read for pleasure find reading enhances their quality of life. In light of this, Quick Reads has released six new £1 titles especially designed to be accessible to struggling readers, as well as those who read infrequently due to time pressures.
