Government proposals on Early Years Foundation stage may be published before the summer recess of Parliament.

Yesterday, in a Westminster Hall Debate on Early Years Assessment, Graham Allen MP and Sarah Teather MP, Minister of State for Children and Young People, indicated that the government proposals for the Early Years Foundation Stage may be published before parliament goes to recess in July.
During the debate Allen continued to call for a more integrated approach to early intervention and for the Department of Health and the Department for Education to work more closely together. Allen also tied the ideas of social mobility and early intervention together arguing that early intervention is much more effective in expanding the chances for social mobility than late interventions.
Allen went on to say that,If we give the little ones a great start, we are giving them the most fantastic advantaged.”
Children’s social and emotional development was highlighted as the bedrock for future success in both the education system and in life in general. In light of the importance of social and emotional development Allen called for assessments of parent-child atunement to take place regularly from birth.
Sarah Teather MP also announced that before the summer recess she and Anne Milton MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Child Health, would be putting out a joint statement on their work to integrate health and early years.
