The Middlesbrough Reading Campaign

The National Literacy Trust Hub in Middlesbrough was our first Hub and launched in 2013, pioneering a new approach to raising literacy in specific communities.

Funded by Middlesbrough Council and the Booker Prize Foundation, the Hub is branded as the Middlesbrough Reading Campaign.

We have identified local literacy-related issues and are working with a range of partners to address them.

Our patron, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, and Middlesbrough FC mascotThe top priorities are:

  • Ensuring children are ready to start school.
  • Raising awareness among parents of premature babies of the value of reading to newborns.
  • Improving the literacy outcomes of teenage boys.

Read about the Hub’s highlights to date.
