The National Reading Campaign (NRC) aims to ensure that as many people as possible enjoy the pleasures and benefits that reading can bring. It formed part of the legacy of the 1998 - 1999 National Year of Reading.
- is the collective name for the following initiatives:
Reading Connects - helping build whole-school reading communities
Reading Champions - involving men and boys in creating a reading culture
Family Reading Campaign - helping to make every home a reading home.
- promotes reading for pleasure throughout the whole community to demonstrate the varied ways in which reading can inspire and sustain people to develop their skills, with a focus on those most in need
- provides a network to bring the reading community together and maximise support for reading events
- provides a one-stop shop for information about reading to spread the word about effective ways of promoting reading
- encourages individuals and organisations to make reading part of their agendas
- produced Read On magazine (last issue winter 2007)- which kept readers informed about reading news and initiatives, NRC news, and promotions
- sent an NRC email newsletter to subscribers three times per year (last issue winter 2007)
- offers free resources to help those promoting reading.
