Hold a Book Swap Party

How does it work?

A stack of booksInvite all your friends round, and ask each person to bring three books with them that they’ve read, but are still in reasonable condition. Lay all the books out somewhere, and, once everyone’s arrived, your guests can select three new books to take home with them.

By asking everyone to make a donation to the National Literacy Trust in return for their new books, you can help us raise much needed funds. We would suggest asking for £10, or £3 per book that they take, and approaching your guests when they arrive or during the book swap.

Don’t forget to print out some of our gift aid forms, or ask us to send you some donation envelopes so that we can claim up to an extra 25% on your guests’ gifts.

Please also let us know when you’re hosting your book swap party so we can make sure you’ve got everything you need!

If there are any books left over from the event then you can help us further by donating them to Better World Books. For more information see their website

Once you’ve held your book swap party

Count up all the donations you’ve received and write a cheque to the National Literacy Trust for the total, and don't forget to send us any Gift Aid forms. Let everyone who came know how much you raised and don’t forget to say thank you. Then put your feet up and have a well-earned rest in the knowledge that you’ve helped make a difference to disadvantaged children’s and adults’ lives.

If you’d like to tell us about your event then we’d love to hear from you. Please email us.
