This was incredibly insightful. As a trainee teacher you'd hope I'd know the importance of engaging all children and finding all the weird and wonderful ways this can be achieved, but it doesn't cease to amaze me the lengths some people are able to go to and the enormous impact they have on a child's development and arguably their life as a whole.
It's becoming increasingly apparent to me that we need to be inspiring children not just about what they're learning, but inspiring them to want to learn.
I feel that finding a way to get them interested in reading and supporting them as this skill develops will open up a whole new world for their learning in all other areas - reading is such an important gateway. With any amount of luck, if they're enjoying reading because of a scheme like the Premiere League Reading Stars they might just be able to enjoy learning in other areas as well, using the skills such an innovative idea has helped them to hone.
