Literacy changes lives

Starbucks and the National Literacy Trust's 'Reading Communities Partnership'

Bringing Starbucks partners and customers together with schools and libraries through a love of reading

Starbucks and the National Literacy Trust have been proud partners since 2001. Over that time Starbucks has dedicated funds and partner (employee) time to positively affect the lives of over 10,000 children and their families. Starbucks' customers and partners have also donated almost half a million books to the Starbucks Bookdrive and these have been distributed to primary schools in need of a reading boost.

Literacy has a huge impact on happiness and success. We know that supporting young people through literacy in local communities will empower them to achieve their full potential. We are delighted that Starbucks have committed to a renewed five year partnership with the National Literacy Trust. Starbucks will be providing funding and partner time to support our Reading is Fundamental, UK (RIF) programme and over the next five years it will help over 23,000 young people to develop a natural love of reading.

Bookdrive
Each November, Starbucks encourages its customers to donate books for local children through the Starbucks Bookdrive, and the number of books donated has gone up each year. Customers collected over 200,000 new books over the 2007 festive period for local primary school children. Customers and partners are asked to donate new or nearly new books, which are collected in a special box in-store before being passed on to a local school. Look out for the Bookdrive collection box in a store near you.
