The RIF annual conference will be held at the British Library in London, on Friday 27 February 2009. Free to RIF project coordinators, the conference offers an opportunity to listen to special guest speakers, attend workshops, browse publisher stands and meet others running

RIF annual review 2007-08
This year, RIF asked project coordinators to answer a wider range of questions about the delivery and impact of their RIF project in 2007-08. Feedback received to date shows some impressive results, particularly in children with a lower ability or interest in reading. For example, 71 percent of project coordinators found that taking part in the RIF project had resulted in a 'moderate to significantly' improved attitude to reading in children with lower ability or interest, 71 percent noticed an improvement in these children's ability to choose books that interested them, and 74 percent reported a 'moderate to significant' improvement in the children's comfort when reading or looking at books. A full summary will be available shortly.

New National Literacy Trust reviews and reports
The National Literacy Trust's head of research Christina Clark and RIF project manager Caroline Sence have published a review of research looking at the impact of choice, interest and self-awareness on children's reading behaviour. Download Interesting choice: The (relative) importance of choice and interest in reader engagement.

A new National Literacy Trust report presents overwhelming evidence that literacy has a significant relationship with a person's happiness and success. Download the executive summary of Literacy changes lives (pdf).

New 'RIF recommends' booklists
A range of booklists containing a selection of tried and tested RIF favourites alongside newer titles is now available. Organised by age range, the booklists are designed to inspire you and the children you work with, and can be accessed on both the RIF and Browns Books for Students websites. Visit the booklist page of the RIF website.

We welcome feedback from coordinators and children: suggest a title for the RIF recommends booklist.

Event spotlight - coordinator competition and events calendar
We know there are lots of creative and original RIF events happening across the country and we'd like to share the best ideas with all our coordinators. Tell RIF about an exciting event that you've held or are planning and we'll feature our favourite in the next email newsletter. Don't forget to let us know your RIF project code, as a selection of children's books will be sent to the featured project as a prize.

If you need inspiration for your first distribution, why not link it to a larger literacy event? Visit the NLT website for links to national events. 2008 National Year of Reading links to local events.
