The National Literacy Trust's policy and research work aims to improve literacy attitudes, habits and skills by influencing policy and practice. Underpinning our work is a commitment to evidence-based policy and practice in order to empower learners of all ages and support professionals. In order to develop cutting-edge practice that really does change lives, we also listen to the views and opinions of children, young people, their parents and practitioners through our survey work and project evaluations.
This site provides details of our own research and work in progress, as well as information on literacy research across the sector, via our comprehensive A-Z index of subject areas and sector listing.
Two pieces of research will be undertaken by us in 2008
- The impact of role models on children's and young people's literacy - this research includes a literature review of the relevant existing research as well as survey work that is going to be conducted this summer.
A brief literature review is now available that will form the basis of our survey work into the impact of role models in the literacy context. It outlines current evidence drawing on a variety of sources and highlights exisiting gaps in the evidence base (April 2008).
- Book choice, choice strategies and self-awareness - this desk research will explore the importance of book choice in children's and young people's literacy lives, what choice strategies are and how book choice relates to interest and self-awareness
