The Football League

Football League Logo

The Football League was started in 1888 by 12 top teams of the time. Since then the League has steadily increased in size until today it contains three Leagues and 72 Clubs.

The aim of the Football League is to provide a national membership and structure for professional football. Within its 72 clubs the League specifically:
• Facilitates financial success, stability and development of professional clubs
• Regulates the professional game
• Promotes the values of the game and its contribution towards the life of the nation

Currently the League is developing a new project with RTG which will help promote reading to young people.
