August - Newcastle PLRS Extension Activities
August 22nd saw the second training ground visit for the PLRS participants from the main scheme (February to May). The children received autographs and pictures with the Newcastle United first team squad, including Obafemi Martins, Kevin Keegan and Michael Owen. Newcastle Libraries and the Newcastle United Foundation also held the Young Journalist Workshop on Friday 29th August. This event went really well. Twenty five children attended this event and undertook various activities. These included interviewing academy players, writing a match report of a DVD highlight package and getting the opportunity to meet Newcastle United legend Peter Beardsley.
Non-RTG literacy activity
The study support centre at St James' Park holds a vast array of
exciting interactive ICT equipment for young attending Geordies.
The Centre ran a RIF project for 60 Year 6 students during the 2002/2003
season as part of a Saturday morning 'Dads and Lads' group. NUFC
raised the £15/child/year to run the RIF scheme themselves.
