Non-RTG literacy activity

Rovers Football in the Community team has joined forces with the library service to run a RIF project from September 2004.

Here's a librarian's report of what happened at one of the events:
"We had our second event at the Stockport game on Saturday - or should I say they did! (I was allowed to be there though!) The FITC guys were brilliant - as always, giving the kids had a tour of the ground. They were told lots of stories, showed the changing rooms, board room etc, they even went into the new executive boxes. They then did some footy skills with them on the 5-a-side pitch. They fed them with jacket potatoes, cheese & beans very kindly donated from a local firm free of charge. Then there was juice, bikkies & crisps. The kids got to see the players arriving, spent their pocket money in the club shop, & of course free entry into the ground. Just before the game the Vice-chairman presented the kids with their books on the pitch. FITC had put something in the programme, and it was announced over the tannoy. With the 3 -1 victory it really completed a brilliant day - even though we all froze to death!"

Doncaster libraries also worked with Doncaster Rovers during Euro 2004 and compiled a quiz - you can download this (and the answers) from RTG Resources. They also worked together during the 2002 World Cup, when the club provided free tickets for games as prizes. There was a 'design a kit' competition for ages 7 and under, which were judged by Rovers staff, and the designs displayed in the library.

Try the World Cup quiz! (you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader) Or, try the quiz online. It's pretty hard, so it helps if you're in a library to do some research. Now there's a challenge.
