Press release:
Boing Boing Baggies Baggies!
Sandwell Central Library was recently the venue for a special
event, which was truly top of the league.
To help celebrate Black History Month, the library
hosted a Boing Boing Baggies Baggies event to celebrate
the contribution made by black footballers and especially
those who played for West Bromwich Albion.
Club historian Tony Matthews
talked about some of the great players and teams from the Albion
and stressed the important role they played in the development of
black footballers.
The Albion was the first team
in the 1970's to play three black players in the same team and one
of those players, Cyrille Regis came in to talk about his career
and also answer questions from the sell out audience.
Current Albion captain Darren
Moore who talked about his career and what it was like to be a black
player in the Premiership completed the panel.
Special 'football pioneers'
boards have been on display at the High Street library throughout
October.
The event was one of many events
organised by Sandwell libraries to celebrate Black History Month.
Celebrated author Bali Rai has visited local libraries to talk
to invited audiences and a series of Asian drumming
workshops have been held throughout October.
