Westcliffe Primary School children recieve their RIF goodies

Fourteen pupils from Westcliffe Primary School have been attending Study United Sessions for the past ten weeks and have covered a range of topics. As part of National Literacy Trust’s Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) scheme, they have been reading poetry books about football and have written poems of their own. The RIF project promotes the fun of reading, the importance of book choice and the benefits to families of having books at home. The children were involved in motivational activities and free books were bought for children to read and keep. “RIF is fun and interesting, it has helped me improve my reading skills and my grammar. The books that we read are also very good.” Amy The Westcliffe parents were invited to come to a special session at the Study United centre, at Glanford Park, to share the children's success. After discussing the project over an informal coffee with the Study United staff the children arrived at the centre and presented their poems and movies to the parents. The children also read their favourite poems from their books.

Study United hopes to run further Reading is Fundamental projects with a variety of Schools during the Autumn Term 2005 but due to lack of funding this may not be possible. With the support of local businesses, a donation to purchase books, prizes, refreshments etc. would enable them to run the RIF projects again, which would benefit many children in the North Lincolnshire area.
Further information can be obtained by contacting Mark or Sandra on 01724 747686. Your help would be very much appreciated!
