One in five children is unable to name a favourite book according
to a survey conducted in 2004. The survey of 300 seven to
14-year-olds, conducted by the Prince of Wales Arts and Kids
Foundation, found that 24% of boys and 16% of girls did not
have enough experience of reading to name a favourite book
unprompted. Among 13 to 14-year-olds, 30% could not name a
preferred book. 52% of children chose JK Rowling's Harry Potter
series as their favourite reading material.

The book that parents most want to share with their children
is The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe according to a survey
for a new BBC magazine Parenting. Winnie the Pooh was runner
up followed by Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,
then JRR Tolkein's The Hobbit. Mary Poppins topped the list
of parents' favourite children's films.
