Post-16 literacy (16-19)

Government policy for those aged 16-19 overlaps, with initiatives for school-age young people, young adults and adults. Since April 2002, the Learning and Skills Council has been responsible for all post-16 education and training, including school sixth forms, and this is now increasing to some provision for 14 to 19-year-olds.

This page focuses on post-16 literacy in the further education sector. Information on young people and literacy outside of formal education can be found under Youth and literacy.
