Guide for schools from the Department for Education and Skills,
2006
This is a "know how booklet" produced
as part of Every Child Matters: Change for Children, and aimed
at schools. It provides details about each aspect of the 'core
offer' of parenting support that should be offered in at least
half of primary schools and a third of secondary schools by
2008.
The core offer
of parenting support comprises:
- on-site transition information sessions for parents of
children starting primary school, and moving on to secondary
school
- on-site information about the advice and support available
to parents through local services and national helplines
and websites
- access to parenting groups
- access to more specialised support for parents who want
and would benefit from it
The booklet also gives contextual information
about local services for parents, a list of frequently asked
questions, and details of useful policy documents, research,
organisations and sources of information for schools and parents.
Many case studies are included to demonstrate ways in which
schools and other organisations have successfully engaged
with parents.
